Southwest Airlines is offering deeply discounted flights to customers looking to visit Hawaii. Passengers can save 40 percent on flights if they book before October 7. The discount applies to flights from January 6 to March 9, about a month after the state’s COVID restrictions are set to expire. To receive the discount (expanded on below), simply enter promo code HAWAII2022 when booking a flight on the airline’s website.

The low-cost airline is best known for its affordable rates and wide variety of destinations. Southwest has been flying to Hawaii since 2019, USA Today notes, and has been expanding service to the tropical state since then. While most nonstop flights to Hawaii depart from West Coast cities, travelers can still make connections to get there from the rest of the country.

It’s worth noting that the discount applies to the fare itself rather than the total cost, which includes taxes and fees. Below are some examples of flights with the HAWAII2022 promo code applied to the cost. The following flights are all in early March of 2022:

- Dallas to Honolulu: $366 roundtrip
- Chicago to Kona: $399 roundtrip

While Hawaii has been one of the most successful states in its attempts to increase vaccination rates and limit the spread of the coronavirus, Governor David Ige has still been cautious with his approach to pandemic-related restrictions. Guidelines that limit the size of gatherings as well as restrictions for bars, restaurants, and other businesses have been extended but are set to expire in early December, well before the discounted trips begin flying.
Southwest Airlines has several policies in place to help ensure safe travel. For example, all passengers and crew are required to wear face coverings on all flights. Additionally, the company’s website informs travelers that their planes completely cycle the cabin air through HEPA filters every 2–3 minutes. Finally, Southwest has announced that all staff must be vaccinated by December 8, a little over one month before the discounted flights begin.
