New Resorts Added
The Ikon Pass is adding two international resorts to its network: Grandvalira Resorts in Andorra and Sun Peaks Resort in British Columbia, Canada. Grandvalira Resorts encompasses three areas in one, combined to offer more than 7,600 acres of terrain with 215 runs and 123 lifts in the Pyrenees mountains.
“Grandvalira Resorts Andorra is the ideal destination for those who seek a new adventure at one of Europe’s largest ski resorts,” said Juan Ramón Moreno, Managing Director of Grandvalira Resorts Andorra. “Ikon Pass holders will love our spectacular views of the Pyrenees, expansive terrain, mountain activities, shopping, and our famed culinary traditions and unique culture of the country of Andorra.”
Fun Fact: If you had to think about where Andorra is, you are not alone. I researched it, and it’s a sovereign municipality on the Iberian Peninsula. France borders it to the north and Spain borders it to the south. Here are our reasons why you need to visit the small mountain country.
Sun Peaks Resort — in the Columbia Mountain Range — is the second-largest ski resort in Canada. With more than 4,200 skiable acres across three peaks, it gets an average of 20 feet of snow each year.
“Our global destination is well positioned to provide strong value and hospitality for Ikon Pass holders at our easy-going, laid-back resort in the interior of British Columbia,” said Aidan Kelly, Chief Marketing Officer, Sun Peaks Resort.
Pass Access
Eager to get skiing? There are three passes to choose from: the Ikon Pass, Ikon Base Pass, and Ikon Session Pass, and they range from $450 to $1,200. Ikon Pass holders can ski a total of seven days at the Grandvalira Resorts and Sun Peak with no blackout dates. Ikon Base Pass holders are eligible for five days of skiing or riding, with some blackout dates. The Ikon Session Pass — which offers just four days of skiing across all of the resorts — is available at both the Andorra and British Columbia resorts.
If the prices look scary, it’s because, at first glance, they are! But, if you are a skier or rider looking to hit the slopes several days this season, a pass may be more economical. Daily lift ticket prices can be $150 (or more), so the Ikon Pass pays for itself with just eight visits.
Existing Resorts
Before this latest announcement, Ikon had added five international resorts to its popular pass. They include Chamonix Mont-Blanc Valley in France, Sun Valley, Idaho, Snowbasin, Utah, Lotte Arai Resort in Japan, and Panorama in British Columbia.
“We are thrilled to give members of the Ikon Pass community more options to ski and ride in Europe and Canada this winter with the addition of Grandvalira Resorts Andorra and Sun Peaks Resort,” said Erik Forsell, Chief Marketing Officer, Alterra Mountain Company. “We love offering pass holders even more endless adventures in the mountains by expanding this global mountain community with new like-minded partners.”
The addition of these seven resorts over the past few weeks means Ikon pass holders can visit more than 50 mountain resorts across 11 countries.
