It may be scorching hot across much of the U.S., but leaf peepers have fall’s cooler days and nights on their minds.

Now, there’s even more reason to get excited about experiencing fall colors — especially if you enjoy camping.
Spacious Skies Campgrounds — which owns and operates 15 RV campgrounds with RV, tent, cabin, and glamping sites — has released details about its 2023 Fall Color Trail. What’s cool is that it explains how campers can follow fall’s peak colors while staying in Spacious Skies Campgrounds from Maine to Georgia.
“Fall-color enthusiasts will find abundant places along the trail to enjoy the color no matter when in the season they are traveling,” Ali Rasmussen, co-founder of Spacious Skies Campgrounds, told TravelAwaits in a statement. “In September, the maples, birches, and oaks at campgrounds in Maine and New Hampshire are bursting with color. Then, by late October and November, the oak and hickory forests in the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Georgia have turned stunning shades of red, copper, and yellow.”
How To Follow The Trail
Spacious Skies Campgrounds’ Fall Color Trail, which includes 15 stops and spans nearly 2,500 miles, begins at the Balsam Woods campground in north central Maine. Here, you’ll be able to see maples, birches, and oaks turn yellow, red, brown, and purple from early September through early October. The trail ends at Spacious Skies Savannah Oaks in Savannah, Georgia. Here, campers can enjoy watching oaks turn copper, yellow, and red from late October through late November.
Of course, if you can’t spend nearly 3 months visiting all the campgrounds, you can always shorten your trip to include as many campgrounds as your schedule allows. You can even use the Fall Color Trail to plan your trip to coincide with fall’s peak colors.
Notably, as Spacious Skies explains, there’s plenty to do at the campgrounds besides enjoying fall colors. For example, campers at Spacious Skies Walnut Grove in southern Maine can also visit the Old Orchard Beach Pier to enjoy live music and food as well as arcade games and rides.
Meanwhile, the 500-acre Spacious Skies Belle Ridge in Monterey, Tennessee, features a natural fishing hole. Campers can also hike to see waterfalls at the campground and at nearby state parks.
