Harriett graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Park and Resource Management. She served as a park ranger in the U.S. National Park Service for 38 years and retired in 2016 as the park superintendent of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. After retiring, she and her husband hiked over 2,000 miles of the Appalachian Trail. They continue to hike, camp, and backpack in our wonderful national parks. When not traveling, Harriett volunteers at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.
